Join us Saturday May 7th, 2016 at 9pm at Three Peaks Recreational Area to watch the Aquarids Meteor Shower. This meteor shower is caused by the Earth traveling through particles left over from Halley’s Comet and can be seen in the direction of the constellation Aquarius.
The Aquarids happen over a fairly long period of time, from around April 20 through May 28, but peak between May 5-7. The new moon will help us out a great deal, as the light from a full moon can wash out a meteor shower. We recommend bundling up and bringing out some lawn chairs for comfort.
This event is free and open to the public. Everyone is invited, and we will not try to sell you anything, however donations help us buy better equipment for the community, and are always deeply appreciated.
We recommend coming right at 9 pm, wrapping up for warmth, and bringing a blanket or chair for additional warmth and comfort. We’ll provide a fire a little ways away from the viewing site, marshmallows, and a telescope to view other objects in the night sky.
Directions to Three Peaks from Cedar City can be found here.
Disclaimer: We stay until everyone leaves, however in the event of inclement weather, we will be there at start time (in this case 9 pm), but if we are rained/snowed out and no one shows up, we typically only wait one hour from start time to call it quits.
